Chapter 295

"Evelyn, come help me pick a dress." Mrs. Sullivan stood in front of the walk-in closet, beckoning her over.

Evelyn approached, her fingers gliding over the hangers before stopping at a Dior haute couture set. "Grandmother, this would suit you perfectly."

The elderly woman's eyes lit up. "You always understand me. I had my eye on this one earlier."

At lunch, Margaret and Henry Sullivan arrived late. Mrs. Sullivan set down her chopsticks. "Tonight's gala will be filled with society's elite. Keep an eye out for a suitable match for Adrian."

Margaret's expression tightened, her grip on the chopsticks turning white-knuckled. If Adrian married someone of equal status, wouldn't that threaten Ethan's inheritance?

"Understood," she replied stiffly.

Evelyn glanced at Adrian, hoping he would speak up. But he kept his head down, silently shoveling food into his mouth.

After lunch, Evelyn was about to rest when Ethan barged in with a styling team.

"What are you doing?" She frowned in annoyance.

Leaning against the doorframe, he said, "Every debutante will be dressed to the nines tonight. Are you really going bare-faced?"

Evelyn sighed and resignedly sat at the vanity.

Three hours later, the makeup artist gently called, "Miss Sullivan, we're finished."

Blinking awake, Evelyn saw her reflection—flawless makeup, a blush-pink gown that made her skin glow like snow, and a pearl necklace shimmering at her collarbone. She looked every inch the aristocrat.

"Thank you." As she stood, she met Ethan's intense gaze.

"Well?" She twirled.

His Adam's apple bobbed. "Stunning."

The ballroom glittered under crystal chandeliers. When Evelyn entered on Ethan's arm, all eyes turned toward them.

"My God, Evelyn is far more beautiful than Isabella!"

"Her skin practically glows, and her features are more refined."

"Shh, Isabella looks ready to explode."

In a shadowed corner, Isabella clenched her wineglass so hard her nails dug into her palm. Those compliments should have been hers! Evelyn had stolen everything from her!

She drained her glass in one gulp, venom flashing in her eyes.
