Chapter 96

Evelyn's eyes were icy cold.

"Find anything interesting?" Her lips curled into a mocking smile. "Did you catch me in bed with someone?"

Ethan's brow furrowed. Before he could speak, she turned and walked away.

The atmosphere in the villa plummeted to freezing.

Even the housekeeper noticed the tension. She quietly pulled Evelyn aside. "Miss Evelyn, you and Mr. Sullivan..."

"It's nothing." Evelyn cut her off. "He's under a lot of stress at work."

The housekeeper hesitated but left without another word.

Evelyn waited in the living room for Ethan to return for dinner. At seven o'clock, Colin called.

"Mr. Sullivan has a business dinner tonight."

She hung up, picked at her food, then went upstairs.

At the banquet hall, Ethan checked his phone every half hour.

When Colin handed it to him for the tenth time, he finally asked, "Are you expecting an important call, sir?"

"Did she ask where I was?" Ethan suddenly demanded.

Colin blinked. "Miss Evelyn just said she understood."

Ethan's expression darkened. He downed a glass of strong liquor in one gulp.

"Sir, you shouldn't drink any more—"

"Tell her to come pick me up."

The phone rang endlessly. No answer.

"Keep calling!"

After five missed calls, Ethan slammed his glass down. "Let's go!"

The villa was pitch black.

Ethan pushed open the bedroom door to find Evelyn curled up on the floor mattress, fast asleep. A surge of anger rose in his chest.

"Evelyn!"

She jolted awake, sitting up sharply. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"Why didn't you answer your phone?"

Evelyn grabbed her phone and glanced at it, then laughed in disbelief. "I put it on silent when I sleep. Is that a problem?"

"You don't sleep until I'm home!"

His voice cut through the darkness like a blade.
