Chapter 94
Alexander King's eyes burned with fury, but he suppressed it. Though Evelyn Sullivan's words enraged him, he didn't want to escalate things further.
Lily White watched coldly, disappointment flashing in her gaze. "Alex, I thought things would be different this time. But you keep letting me down. I need to reconsider our relationship."
She turned and walked away, her heels clicking sharply against the floor. Alexander stood rooted in place, his fists clenching and unclenching, but he didn’t follow.
"Happy now, Evelyn?"
Evelyn lifted her icy gaze. "Not my problem. You started this."
If they hadn’t provoked her, none of this would have happened. She knew Lily’s game—she just wanted Alexander to grovel.
Without another word, Evelyn strode into the MY Fashion Group building, her back rigid.
Two weeks later, Ethan Sullivan recovered enough to return to work.
Evelyn decided the timing was right and arranged to meet her senior, Dr. Evan, at a Western restaurant.
"Long time no see, junior." Evan pulled out a chair for her with a smile.
Evelyn sat and immediately picked up the menu. "Your treat?"
"Order whatever you want." He smirked. "I can afford it."
She swiftly selected her meal and handed the menu to the waiter. "Then I won’t hold back."
"You shouldn’t." Evan chuckled. "Otherwise, you’ll stay mad at me."
Evelyn narrowed her eyes. "Next time you gossip about me to the professor, I’ll return the favor with some of your stories."
"He adores you. Of course he’d ask about you." Evan spread his hands helplessly. "I had no choice."
"Tell him to ask me directly."
"Not a bad idea." A mischievous glint flashed in his eyes.
Evelyn rolled hers. "I’m visiting the sect next week. Coming? Rumor has it you haven’t been back in three years."
"Only because of you." He grinned. "Otherwise, the professor wouldn’t let me through the door."
"Mostly because I need you to stop him from beating me up."
"Serves you right!" Evan laughed. "He warned you not to save Ethan the first time. Now you’re doing it again? If he doesn’t make you kneel for three days, I’ll take your last name!"
Evelyn sighed.
No mercy from anyone.
"Last time was impulsive. But this time, his injuries are my fault..."
Evan frowned. "What happened?"
"Drop it." She pressed her lips together. "Once he’s healed, we’re even. We go our separate ways."
Seeing her reluctance, he changed the subject. "Taking him back to the sect?"
