Chapter 85
"Sis!"
Isabella Jackson plastered on a fake smile and hurried over to Evelyn Sullivan.
"You know I make the best steamed eggs. Let me help you."
"Sure."
They carried the eggs into the kitchen. The moment the door closed, Isabella's smile vanished.
"Evelyn, if you dare tell him—"
Evelyn cracked an egg leisurely, a smirk playing on her lips. "Why should I keep your secret? What if Ethan finds out it was me who stayed by his hospital bed for three days and nights?"
Isabella clenched her fists.
"You're the one who made me leave!"
"And you just obeyed?" Evelyn shot her a sidelong glance. "Seems like you don’t care about him that much."
Isabella's face darkened.
"What do you want?"
"You should be asking what you can offer me."
Evelyn whisked the eggs with practiced ease and placed the bowl into the steamer.
"You have until these eggs are done. Make it worth my while."
Isabella trembled with rage. She never should have come today.
Ten minutes later, steam rose from the pot.
"Five minutes left."
Isabella gritted her teeth. "Mom and Dad will throw you a birthday party this year!"
She expected Evelyn to be tempted.
Instead, Evelyn only laughed softly.
"That’s it?"
"You’ve always wanted their approval!"
Evelyn shook her head.
"Not anymore."
"You’re lying!"
Evelyn reached for the steamer.
"Then I guess I’ll just tell Ethan."
A flash of malice crossed Isabella’s eyes. She suddenly knocked the bowl of steaming eggs from Evelyn’s hands.
Scalding custard splashed toward Evelyn.
Evelyn dodged, but the hot liquid still seared her arm, leaving an angry red blister.
Isabella gasped in fake concern. "Sis, I didn’t mean to—"
Slap!
A sharp slap cut her off.
