Chapter 82

"Ethan..."

Isabella's timid voice made Ethan Sullivan turn his head. She stood at the hospital room door, nervously twisting the hem of her dress, her eyes filled with unease.

The coldness in Ethan's expression softened instantly.

"Did I scare you?"

She shook her head, forcing a smile. When she bent down to pick up the shattered glass on the floor, Ethan stopped her.

"Don't touch it. You might cut yourself."

A nurse quickly came in to clean up the mess. Isabella sat by the bed, speaking softly to Ethan until he closed his eyes. Only then did she tiptoe out of the room.

The moment the door clicked shut, Ethan's eyes snapped open.

He dialed Colin's number, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Get to the hospital. Now."

Half an hour later, Colin rushed in.

"Sir, you're finally awake!" He exhaled in relief. "The stock price has plummeted these past few days. Some board members are already making moves..."

Ethan's gaze sharpened as he swiftly assessed the company's situation.

"Hold a press conference this afternoon."

Colin hesitated. "But your condition—"

"Then issue a statement first." Ethan narrowed his eyes. "Arrange for photos."

After handling business matters, Ethan abruptly changed the subject. "Any updates on the car accident?"

A bead of sweat formed on Colin's temple. "That vehicle... vanished without a trace."

The temperature in the room seemed to drop. Ethan didn't press further, instead asking about the driver.

"Uncle West is out of danger." Colin paused before adding carefully, "As for Ms. Sullivan—"

"She's tired." Ethan cut him off. "You're dismissed."

In the following days, Evelyn never returned to the hospital. She had reviewed Ethan's medical records and knew his leg injury required long-term treatment.

Now that he was safe, she saw no reason to irritate him further.

Meanwhile, Ethan's temper grew increasingly unpredictable.

On his discharge day, Evelyn was in the middle of assigning tasks in a meeting when her phone buzzed.

"Mr. Sullivan?"

A cold laugh came through the line. "Mrs. Sullivan, do you remember you have a husband?"

She rubbed her temples. "You told me not to come."

"You weren't this obedient during the divorce." His voice rose sharply. "Get to the hospital. Now!"

The call ended with a violent click. Evelyn stared at the darkened screen and sighed deeply.
