Chapter 297
Evelyn couldn't bring herself to sincerely help Adrian choose a wife. She'd rather find a quiet place to be alone.
"Grandmother, which young lady has caught your eye?"
The elderly Mrs. Sullivan smiled kindly. "My opinion doesn't matter. It's Adrian's heart that counts. That boy slipped away as soon as this began. I just sent the butler to find him."
Remembering Adrian's words this morning about not wanting a relationship, Evelyn hesitated about telling the old woman.
The butler returned with an exasperated Adrian in tow.
"Madam, the young master was in the music room."
Mrs. Sullivan's eyes instantly welled up.
The music room had been Jane Sullivan's favorite place. The pianist had first met Zachary Sullivan there. Later, Mrs. Sullivan had a music room specially built at Harmony Manor.
Adrian knelt on one knee before his grandmother. "Forgive me, Grandmother. I just... missed them."
She patted his hand gently. "I understand."
Evelyn studied Adrian quietly.
His bowed head hid his expression. But losing both parents in his teens must have left wounds that never fully healed.
When Mrs. Sullivan regained her composure, she suddenly straightened. "Adrian, accompany me to the stage."
Evelyn sensed something momentous in the old woman's demeanor.
Adrian helped his grandmother ascend the platform.
"Thank you all for coming. As you know, my eldest grandson Adrian has returned..."
Her speech grew increasingly impassioned.
"If not for the accident, Adrian would have rightfully inherited the Sullivan Group."
The crowd erupted in murmurs.
"Is she asking Ethan to step down?"
"The Sullivan Group's success is all because of Ethan!"
"This is completely unfair!"
Unfazed, Mrs. Sullivan continued, "I haven't forgotten Ethan's contributions. Therefore, I've decided to leave Harmony Manor to Adrian."
Gasps filled the room.
Harmony Manor was worth billions—equivalent to half the Sullivan Group's value!
Understanding dawned on Evelyn. Mrs. Sullivan had made this decision after learning Adrian went to the music room.
She scrutinized Adrian's calm demeanor on stage.
Was the music room visit coincidence or calculation? Was he truly as indifferent to wealth and status as he appeared?
Suddenly, Adrian turned. His gaze locked directly onto hers.
