Chapter 291
"How could she become CEO of MY when she knows nothing?" Victoria Farley's voice dripped with disbelief.
William Jackson pondered for a moment before speaking slowly. "Ethan Sullivan must have given it to her. Weren't the Sullivans acquiring MY recently?"
"He gave Brocade to Isabella, and now MY to Evelyn. What's his game?" Victoria's voice rose sharply. "Does he want both of them?!"
William narrowed his eyes. If Ethan truly intended that, he wouldn't mind offering both daughters. To him, they were merely bargaining chips. Only his illegitimate son, raised in secret, was the true heir to the Jackson fortune.
"I'll find a way to sound Ethan out."
After hanging up, William hesitated before dialing Evelyn's number.
In the conference room, Evelyn was reviewing quarterly reports when her phone screen suddenly projected onto the display—William's caller ID glaringly obvious.
Quincy Howard tensed. "Ms. Sullivan, this—"
"Decline it." Evelyn didn't even glance up. "Continue the presentation."
William listened to the dial tone, his expression darkening. The girl was still holding a grudge. He'd have to visit MY in person. It was a perfect opportunity to assess the company's potential—perhaps a stepping stone for Jackson Group's expansion into fashion.
The vision of his empire growing brought an unconscious smirk to his lips.
"Ms. Sullivan, your father is waiting in the reception room," River Blue said cautiously.
Evelyn paused mid-step, her gaze turning icy. "Turn him away next time."
River realized her mistake and quickly apologized.
Pushing open the reception room door, Evelyn didn't bother sitting. "What do you want, Mr. Jackson?"
William suppressed his anger and forced a smile. "Evelyn, it's been so long since you came home. Join us for dinner tonight. Your mother and sister miss you."
Evelyn nearly laughed out loud. Victoria and Isabella missing her? More like wishing she'd vanish forever.
"Mr. Jackson, we severed ties long ago." She turned to leave. "This had better be your last visit to MY."
"Wait!" William stood abruptly. "Blood is thicker than water. We're still family!"
Evelyn looked back, her eyes mocking. "You're only here because you found out I'm MY's CEO. Suddenly, I'm useful?"
William's face twisted. "Nonsense! I'm your father. Do you really think I'd harm you?"
"You abandoned me twenty-three years ago on a fortune teller's whim. You cut me off for the White family's sake. And let's not forget a lifetime of favoring Isabella." Evelyn enunciated each word. "Whatever you're after, forget it."
Leaving William seething, Evelyn walked away without a backward glance.
Back in her office, Sophia Reynolds lounged with crossed legs, waiting. "Sign this." She leaned in conspiratorially. "Guess who Design just hired?"
