Chapter 284

Henry Sullivan's gaze was sharp as a blade, sweeping coldly over Margaret Sullivan's face.

"Instead of being paranoid all day, why don't you go out and relax?" He adjusted his suit cuff. "I have a meeting at the company."

Margaret grabbed his arm.

"Ethan must cut ties with Evelyn Sullivan completely! That woman will be the death of him!"

"Don't be ridiculous!" Henry shook off her hand. "Adrian just joined the company. Ethan already has enough on his plate."

Flames of anger burned in Margaret's eyes.

"Henry Sullivan! All you care about is the company. Do you even care if your son lives or dies?"

"Suit yourself."

He walked toward the elevator without looking back.

"Stop right there!"

The elevator doors slid shut, reflecting her distorted image.

This business marriage had long been a hollow shell. After giving birth to twins, Henry never stepped into her bedroom again. Years of hysterical arguments had only resulted in icy civility.

Ethan was her only pride.

She would never let anyone ruin him.

Confronting Ethan directly wouldn’t work. She needed another plan.

Evelyn Sullivan had just stepped into her office when Simon Reynolds blocked the doorway.

"President Sullivan, for Sophia's sake, let my brother go."

She set her bag on the desk without glancing up.

"Are you pleading for a murderer?"

"He was just following orders! Sophia has already lost her mother. She can’t lose her father too!"

Evelyn suddenly smiled.

"You seem to be missing the point."

"What do you mean?"

"This is a criminal case." She lifted her gaze. "No one involved will escape justice—including the mastermind."

Simon's face paled.

"Don’t push this too far!"

"Save that speech for the judge." Evelyn flipped open a file. "By the way, starting today, you’ll handle customer service. I’m taking over the fabric division."

"You can’t just demote me!"

"Twenty-three percent complaint rate, Mr. Reynolds." She twirled a pen. "Focus on improving service quality."

Simon slammed the door so hard the glass rattled.

Unfazed, Evelyn picked up the intercom. "Replace this with a soundproof door."

As evening fell, her phone lit up with Ethan’s call.

"Grandmother wants us to have dinner at Harmony Manor."

Evelyn’s fingers stilled.

"She knows?"

"I told her."

"..."

"Not happy?"

She rubbed her temples. "You couldn’t wait, could you?"

"We can reschedule if you don’t want to go."

"No need." She glanced at her lipstick. "Pick me up after work."

After hanging up, she pressed her lips together in the mirror.

The rose-tinted gloss shimmered under the light.
