Chapter 220

Evelyn Sullivan had just stepped out of MY Fashion Group's building when Margaret Sullivan blocked her path.

"Miss Sullivan, a word."

Margaret wore dark sunglasses, her crimson lips pressed into a tight line, radiating an aura that warned others to keep their distance.

Inside the café, Margaret slid a check across the table.

"Five million. Enough to secure your future."

Evelyn glanced at it, her lips curling into a cold smile.

"Mrs. Sullivan, is that all your son is worth?"

Margaret ripped off her sunglasses, fury blazing in her eyes.

"Evelyn Sullivan! You nearly got Ethan killed, and now you dare haggle?!"

Evelyn took a sip of coffee, her expression calm.

"No one wanted that accident to happen."

"Stop pretending to be innocent!" Margaret slammed her hands on the table, standing abruptly. "Ever since he met you, Ethan's life has been nothing but chaos!"

Heads turned in the café.

Evelyn rose slowly, looking down at her.

"If you truly care about your son, why not ask him what he thinks?"

"You—!"

Margaret trembled with rage, her manicured nails digging into her palms.

"Don’t think I don’t know what you’re after! You just want to cling to the Sullivan family. Well, as long as I’m alive, you’ll never succeed!"

Evelyn walked away without looking back.

Margaret’s shrill voice followed her: "You’ll regret this!"

When Ethan arrived, he found his mother alone in the café, wiping away tears.

"Mom."

Margaret looked up, her eyes filled with disappointment.

"You finally show up? For that woman, you’d abandon your own mother?"

Ethan frowned.

"You shouldn’t have come to see her."

"I shouldn’t?" Her voice rose sharply. "She almost killed you! Ethan, have you lost your mind?!"

"That’s my business."

"Fine. Just fine!" Margaret stood on unsteady legs. "From now on, I don’t have a son!"

Ethan caught her arm.

"Mom, calm down."

"Let go!"

Watching his mother storm off, Ethan tugged at his tie in frustration.

His phone buzzed.

[Free tonight?]

Evelyn’s reply came quickly: [Plans with Sophia.]

Ethan stared at the screen for a long moment before typing a single word: [Okay.]

In her office, Evelyn set down her phone and gazed at the sunset.

Sophia Reynolds pushed the door open. "Daydreaming? Weren’t we supposed to go shopping?"

"Let’s go."

Evelyn grabbed her coat and tossed the crumpled check into the trash.
