Chapter 160
The day the divorce certificate arrived, Evelyn Sullivan stared at the small red booklet for a long time.
Her fingertips brushed against the cover, and it felt strangely hot to the touch.
Instead of the expected relief, it was like a stone finally dropping—leaving a shallow dent in her heart.
She tucked the document into the deepest drawer and began packing.
The villa in Northville was closer to the office, making the move more convenient. As for this marital home, since Ethan Sullivan had already transferred it to her, selling it wouldn’t be an issue.
After listing the property, she wheeled her suitcase out the front door.
"Evelyn?"
The familiar voice made her pause.
Daniel Sterling stood at the entrance of the neighboring villa, his gaze lingering on her luggage, a flicker of hope in his eyes.
"I'm moving here," she said plainly. "We're divorced."
His pupils contracted slightly, and the corners of his lips lifted unconsciously.
"I’ve been meaning to tell you—I live right next door—"
A sudden phone ring cut him off.
After hanging up, Evelyn offered an apologetic smile. "Something urgent came up. Let’s talk another time."
Daniel watched her hurried departure, words left unspoken.
Night fell.
Evelyn closed her laptop and rubbed her stiff neck. Outside, the city lights shimmered, and her phone screen lit up at the perfect moment.
"Wrapped!" Zoe Zade’s cheerful voice burst through the receiver. "Come have late-night snacks with me!"
"I haven’t even had dinner yet."
"Perfect!" Zoe exclaimed. "My treat—we’re going to the most expensive place in town!"
"Big paycheck?"
"Just…" Zoe dragged out the word playfully, "a fraction of a small fortune!"
Evelyn chuckled and sent her the location.
The doorbell rang just as she finished wiping the coffee table.
"Missed you so much!" Zoe flung her arms open for a hug.
Evelyn sidestepped gracefully. "Mind your image, superstar."
"Ugh!" Zoe puffed her cheeks. "You have no idea how exhausting it is to keep up appearances every day."
"Cold beauty persona crumbling?"
"Blame my agent!" Zoe groaned. "I’m a total softie, but she insists I act like some ice queen!"
Then she leaned in conspiratorially. "But lately, there’s this investor chasing me hard—even funded Eternal Legacy just to have dinner with me."
Evelyn raised a brow. "Interested?"
"Not a chance!" Zoe scoffed. "I still prefer the Ethan Sullivan type—aloof and untouchable—"
Before she could finish, she collapsed onto the couch, laughing at herself.
