Chapter 153
Evelyn's hand trembled violently. The shower's water flow cut off abruptly.
She rushed out of the bathroom, droplets still clinging to her hair.
"What happened?"
Ethan's face was dark as iron, his voice icy. "The hospital."
The hospital corridor lights glared harshly.
Margaret and Henry stood outside the ward. Adrian leaned against the wall, an unlit cigarette between his fingers.
Ethan strode forward. "How's Grandma?"
Henry sighed heavily. "The doctor's examining her."
"What happened?"
The air froze.
Adrian spoke suddenly. "Someone sent a package to Harmony Manor."
He paused, lowering his voice. "A dead baby."
Evelyn gasped, nails digging into her palms.
Ethan's gaze turned glacial. "Check the surveillance?"
"The sender was cunning. They avoided all cameras." Adrian crushed the cigarette. "I've already sent people to investigate."
Ethan pulled out his phone, murderous intent radiating as he dialed. "Find them. Alive or dead."
The doctor emerged. "The patient was just frightened. She'll wake soon."
Margaret forced a smile. "Thank you, Doctor."
She turned to Ethan. "You should all go rest."
Ethan didn't move. "I'll wait for Grandma to wake."
Adrian remained as well.
Evelyn suddenly stood. "I need the restroom."
The stairwell's motion-sensor light flickered.
She quickly typed a message, the screen's glow highlighting her tense jawline.
Click—
The door hinge creaked loudly in the silence.
Evelyn whirled around. "Who's there?"
A phone screen lit up, revealing Adrian's amused face.
"Enjoying some alone time, sister-in-law?" He toyed with the cigarette, eyes predatory like a leopard's.
When he removed the cigarette, his expression smoothed back into gentle refinement.
Evelyn's back chilled. "Just getting some air."
She hurried toward the exit. As she passed him, Adrian suddenly chuckled. "Now's not the best time to return."
The ward door was slightly ajar. Margaret's shrill voice pierced through:
"They must divorce! That woman will be the death of our family!"
Evelyn's hand froze mid-reach.
