Chapter 147

"What do you mean by that?"

"I'll pay for your leg treatment. We get divorced. Everyone gets what they want. If you refuse treatment, I'll still file for divorce!"

Ethan Sullivan's eyes turned to ice. "Evelyn Sullivan, how dare you!"

A cold smile curled Evelyn's lips. "Why wouldn't I dare? You can wallow in self-pity all you want, but don't drag me down with you. Go be miserable on your own!"

She turned and walked away, her heels clicking sharply against the floor.

Standing outside Sullivan Corporation, Evelyn hesitated before dialing Grandma Sullivan's number.

After hanging up, she drove straight back to the villa.

Fresh from her shower and about to eat, Ethan stormed in, bringing a chill with him.

"Who gave you permission to tell Grandma about this?"

Evelyn set down her chopsticks and met his furious gaze calmly. "She would've found out eventually. What's the difference?"

Veins bulged on Ethan's forehead, his fists clenched tight.

"You're ruthless!"

"If you insist on refusing treatment, I'm moving out tonight." Evelyn dabbed her lips with a napkin, unhurried.

"You wouldn't dare."

"Try me."

Ethan took a deep breath, his voice frigid. "I'll continue treatment. On one condition—no divorce."

Evelyn scoffed. "Ethan Sullivan, using this to blackmail me? How pathetic."

"You—"

Seeing his rage, Evelyn lost her appetite completely. She stood abruptly, deliberately knocking over a glass. "Suit yourself. It's not my legs that'll be useless. When Isabella dumps you again, you'll deserve it."

In the bedroom, she was tossing clothes into a suitcase when Ethan shoved the door open.

"I'll cooperate with treatment. You're not leaving."

Evelyn hurled a folded shirt at him. "Should've been this reasonable from the start. Needing coaxing to get your legs treated—how childish."

Ethan: "..."

After the storm passed, they settled back into their usual uneasy truce.

Soon, Grandma Sullivan's seventieth birthday arrived.

Neither mentioned the gift again, maintaining their silent agreement.

Evelyn left work early to pick up the sandalwood prayer beads she'd ordered six months prior, then headed straight to Harmony Manor.

Though Grandma had wanted a quiet celebration, Henry and Margaret Sullivan insisted on inviting half of Rongcheng's elite.

The living room buzzed with clinking glasses. The moment Evelyn entered, she saw Margaret chatting warmly with Isabella, who shot her a disdainful glance before turning away.

Evelyn went straight to the guest of honor.

"Evelyn!" Grandma's eyes lit up. "I thought you'd forgotten my birthday."

"Never." Evelyn handed her the velvet box. "Wishing you endless happiness."

Grandma opened it, delight spreading across her face as she admired the lustrous beads. "You always know best!"

Her immediate decision to wear them made the guests reassess this granddaughter-in-law's standing.

"Where's Ethan? Didn't he come with you?"
