Chapter 136
Evelyn Sullivan rubbed her temples in exasperation. "Zoe, superstar, spare me. I'm not into women. Besides, my salary barely covers my own expenses."
Zoe Zade pouted dramatically. "How boring. My dream of marrying into wealth just shattered."
"Please," Evelyn chuckled, poking fun at her. "You're such a workaholic. Three days off and you'd go stir-crazy."
"Only because you keep rejecting me!" Zoe sighed theatrically. "Forcing me to drown myself in film roles."
As they bantered, Zoe stood up. "I'm heading to the restroom."
Evelyn nodded.
In the hallway, Zoe strode toward the cashier. A figure suddenly emerged from around the corner, and they collided.
Her hat tumbled to the floor, revealing her striking features under the lights.
She quickly snatched it back, pulling it low over her face. "Checkout for private room three," she murmured to the cashier.
Lucas Laurier stared at her delicate chin, still dazzled by the brief glimpse of her beauty. The rising starlet was even more captivating in person than on screen.
Straightening his tie, he approached. "My apologies for earlier."
Zoe didn’t look up. "No worries."
"Can I get your number?" Lucas flashed a charming grin. "It was love at first sight."
She lifted icy eyes to his. "Sorry. I only date women."
Seizing his stunned silence, she walked away. Lucas watched her retreating figure, then dialed a number. "Find out about Zoe Zade’s new project. I’m investing a hundred million."
Back in the private room, Zoe glared at Evelyn. "I said this was my treat!"
"You have a family to support," Evelyn teased, suppressing a smile.
"My paycheck went home weeks ago!" Zoe planted her hands on her hips. "Next time at Wangjing, I’m paying!"
"Fine, fine."
As they stepped out, they nearly ran into Ethan Sullivan’s group.
Lucas’s eyes lit up—until he spotted Evelyn. They knew each other?
"Sister-in-law, dining out?" he ventured cautiously.
Evelyn’s expression remained cool. "You’ve mistaken me for someone else, Mr. Laurier."
Zoe suddenly slipped into drama mode, clutching Evelyn’s arm. "Evelyn, why is he calling you sister-in-law? Have you changed your heart?"
Her fake sobs echoed down the hallway.
