Chapter 128
Evelyn Sullivan massaged her temples, exhausted from a full day of meetings. The charity gala had completely slipped her mind.
"Give me five more minutes."
She quickly organized her files. As she hurried to the parking lot in her heels, she spotted Ethan Sullivan checking his watch.
The moment she slid into the car, she felt his piercing gaze sweep over her.
"Problem?"
"You're planning to attend the charity gala dressed like that?"
Evelyn glanced down at her professional attire—a black pencil skirt paired with a white blouse, sleek and efficient.
"This isn't appropriate?"
Ethan's long fingers tapped the armrest. "Ginza."
"Mr. Sullivan, it's just a routine event. No need for such extravagance."
"Tonight you represent Sullivan Group." His tone brooked no argument. "Perfection is mandatory."
Forty minutes later, Colin Keller wheeled Ethan into Ginza Shopping Center. The trio drew countless stares.
Even in a wheelchair, Ethan commanded attention. Several young women hesitated, their flirtatious advances dying under his icy glare.
"Which store first?"
"Vera Wang."
Evelyn paused mid-step. "Let's pick another."
"Their designs suit you."
She arched an eyebrow. "Since when does Mr. Sullivan know women's fashion?"
"Jealous?"
"Hardly." Her lips curved. "I've taken your advice about not overestimating my position to heart."
Ethan's expression darkened instantly, the air between them turning glacial.
Upon entering the boutique, store manager Vanessa Cruz's eyes widened in recognition. A subtle glance from Evelyn silenced any outburst.
"Mr. Sullivan, Ms. Sullivan, welcome."
Evelyn studied Ethan's profile. "You frequent this store?"
"First time."
Colin smoothly interjected, "Mr. Sullivan reviewed Vera Wang's fashion show last month specifically noting designs for you."
Vanessa enthusiastically presented the season's collection, highlighting several pieces by the head designer. Evelyn's ears grew warm beneath the praise.
"Try them all."
In the fitting room, Vanessa whispered urgently, "My God! What's your relationship with Ethan Sullivan? He doesn't know you own Vera Wang?"
"It's complicated." Evelyn sighed. "Prepare yourself—this might shock you."
"Unless you're telling me you're married."
"Bingo."
"What?!"
