Chapter 127
If Colin were here, he'd be rolling his eyes. After Ethan Sullivan personally ordered all business ties with the White family severed, who would dare cross him?
Evelyn Sullivan's lips curved slightly as she lowered her head to continue eating.
After dinner, they sat in the living room watching TV. Ethan suddenly spoke. "What do you plan to do about your mother?"
Evelyn's smile froze. "Since she publicly announced cutting ties, we'll be strangers."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure?"
He remembered Isabella mentioning how Evelyn had always longed for her parents' affection.
"What do you mean?" Evelyn frowned at him.
"I heard you used to care deeply about your relationship with Victoria. Having family support might—"
Clang. Evelyn slammed the fruit fork down. "Are you here to plead the Jacksons' case?"
Ethan hesitated. "Isabella came to see me today. She hopes you'll let this go."
"So you agreed?" Her voice turned icy.
"No. I just don't want you to regret it later."
"Don't trouble yourself, Mr. Sullivan. I've thought this through!"
Evelyn stood and stormed to her room, slamming the door.
Even when Dr. Evan arrived for Ethan's acupuncture session, the bedroom door remained shut.
After much deliberation, Ethan wheeled himself to her door.
"Evelyn, we need to talk."
"I'm sleeping," came the muffled reply.
"You're angry."
"I'm not. Don't disturb me."
The sound of his wheelchair gradually faded away.
The next morning, Evelyn was already gone when Ethan woke.
He ate breakfast in silence, then made a call.
"Yes?" Her voice was cool and distant.
"Evelyn!" Ethan struggled to contain his anger. "What's this tantrum about?"
"I'm busy."
"Too busy to face me?"
"You're overthinking it. Work calls. Goodbye."
"I'll pick you up at MY for the Whites' banquet tonight!"
He hung up before she could respond.
As the sun set, Evelyn was reviewing documents when her phone rang again.
"Come down." Ethan's tone brooked no argument.
