Chapter 84

Moonlight streamed through the gap in the curtains, outlining her graceful silhouette. The black lace nightgown clung to her perfect curves, revealing glimpses of skin in the dim light.

Nathan Evans' breathing instantly grew ragged.

He pinned her beneath him, his scorching lips claiming hers urgently. "Evelyn..." His voice was hoarse with desire.

This time, he wouldn't let her leave again.

...

Dawn lightened the bedroom before peace finally returned.

Nathan fell into deep sleep, a satisfied smile lingering on his lips.

Harsh sunlight woke him. He pressed fingers to his throbbing temples, the hangover making his vision blur.

His arm brushed against something warm and soft.

He turned sharply to meet Chloe Valentine's shy, teary gaze.

The girl's pale skin bore telltale marks of passion, her disheveled hair strewn across the pillow. She timidly pulled the sheet higher, trying to cover the evidence.

Nathan's expression darkened.

Fragmented memories flashed through his mind. He distinctly remembered getting drunk outside Evelyn's apartment last night. How did this...

"Nathan..." Chloe's quiet sob broke the silence. "You were so rough with me..."

He raked fingers through his hair. "What the hell happened?"

"You were drunk. I brought you home..." Her lip trembled as tears fell. "You wouldn't let me go... I tried to push you away..."

Her shaking hand reached for his arm but stopped midair. "I know you love someone else. I won't cling to you..."

She tried to rise but collapsed when her feet touched the floor.

Nathan's temple pulsed at the sight of angry red marks on her neck. "Forget it." He closed his eyes. "We'll deal with this later."

As shower sounds filled the bathroom, Chloe wiped her tears. A triumphant smile curved her lips.

The silk nightgown had been returned to its place in the wardrobe.

Her performance had been flawless.
