Chapter 160
Elizabeth Melville's eyes gleamed with calculation. "What does Evelyn do in Boston? It must be impressive. Ordinary people can't save up millions."
Evelyn Langley pressed her lips together. Victoria Langley gently squeezed her daughter's hand.
"You flatter her. Evelyn changed jobs a few times after Harvard. She just saved some modest earnings."
Grace Deross snorted. "Hopefully not through questionable means. Girls should know their place."
Victoria remained composed. "Children have their own paths. We should support them as elders."
Patricia Lorenz arched an eyebrow. "Paths? Or is she hunting for new targets? Will she bring back another few million next time?"
She emphasized the word "targets" deliberately.
Victoria's expression darkened. Just as she was about to respond, Evelyn's phone rang.
"Mom, I need to take this..."
"Go ahead." Victoria took a deep breath.
"Sophia?"
Sophia Laurent's voice came urgently. "The grad school results are out! Check yours now!"
Evelyn suddenly remembered today was score release day.
"Okay, checking now."
She hurried upstairs and entered her exam ID on the computer.
As her finger hovered over the search button—
"Are these bags real?"
Tiffany Lorenz emerged from the walk-in closet clutching a Chanel, an LV slung over her shoulder.
"Who said you could come in here?"
"Aunt Grace said I could look around."
"Looking doesn't mean rummaging through private belongings."
"They're just bags. Why so touchy?"
Evelyn's gaze turned icy. "Did no one teach you not to touch others' property?"
"I did it anyway. What will you do?"
"Put. Them. Back."
"Stop pretending! These were obviously bought by some man!"
Slap!
A sharp crack echoed through the room.
"That slap teaches you to watch your mouth."
"You hit me?!" Tiffany shrieked, clutching her cheek.
"I don't need an appointment to slap you."
"I'll kill you!"
Downstairs, the relatives continued speculating about Evelyn's income sources.
Suddenly, screams erupted from the second floor.
Patricia jumped up. "That's Tiffany!"
