Chapter 327

Those nights of heart-wrenching agony were now distant memories.

Evelyn Langley stood in the sunlight, realizing how long it had been since she last thought of that person.

The wound she once believed would never heal had faded into a faint scar.

"Yes?" she asked calmly.

"Can we talk privately?"

"Unnecessary." Evelyn turned to leave.

"Mianmian—"

"Mr. Evans, please use my full name."

Nathan Evans' expression stiffened.

He shot a glance at Adrian Klein standing nearby, silently urging him to leave.

The physicist remained motionless, ignoring the unspoken request.

Nathan clenched his fists.

Evelyn instinctively took half a step back.

"We should go," she said to Adrian.

The man gave a slight nod.

"'We'? Then what am I?" Nathan's eyes darkened with barely restrained fury.

He took a deep breath, forcing down the storm of emotions.

"I came to say," he locked eyes with Evelyn, "I don't accept your 'congratulations' from that day."

Evelyn frowned.

"Unless you forgive me, I'll never have children in this lifetime." Nathan enunciated each word. "Because the only woman who can bear my children is you."

The air froze.

Both Evelyn and Adrian fell silent.

"You should see a doctor," Evelyn finally said.

"What?"

"A psychiatrist." She tugged Adrian's sleeve. "Let's go."

Only after entering the elevator did she exhale deeply.

"Sorry you had to witness that, Professor."

Adrian contemplated for a moment. "You've... been through a lot."

"..."

Returning home, Evelyn took a long hot shower.

After confirming no one lurked outside her window, she grabbed a shopping bag and headed out.

"Professor?" She froze at the alley entrance.

Adrian had changed into casual wear, his damp hair still dripping.

"Grocery shopping? I'll join you."

Understanding dawned—he was worried Nathan might reappear.

"Thank you."

Adrian smiled. "Shall we?"

Sunlight danced across their shoulders as they walked.

The 10 AM farmers' market buzzed with lively chatter.
