Chapter 430
Adrian Klein cleared his throat, the tips of his ears tinged pink. "Professor Macmillan said... the lab always welcomes you back."
Evelyn Langley tilted her head. "When did Professor Macmillan say that?"
"Last Wednesday," he answered instinctively.
"Oh—" Evelyn drew out the syllable. "So you've been keeping that to yourself for a whole week?"
Adrian fled in defeat.
Evelyn watched his retreating figure, her eyes crinkling with amusement.
The sunlight was warm, the breeze gentle.
She decided to go home and clean that afternoon.
Just as she reached the school gates, Evelyn paused.
Nathan Evans stood at the entrance, dressed in a tailored suit, holding an extravagant bouquet of blue roses.
"It's that rich heir again!"
"He switched to blue roses this time. Must've cost a fortune."
"If someone that handsome chased me, I'd say yes in a heartbeat!"
Whispers followed her.
Evelyn frowned and turned away.
She had already rejected him clearly.
Cleaning could wait.
Nathan waited for two hours before laughing bitterly at himself.
He walked toward the trash bin.
"Such expensive flowers. What a waste to throw them away."
Sophia Frackett stood before him in a white dress.
"None of your business," Nathan said coldly.
Sophia's smile froze.
She had dressed up carefully today, only to be met with indifference.
"You're right. It's none of my business," she said, quickly regaining her composure. "But I can still think it's a waste, can't I?"
Nathan smirked.
Right in front of her, he shoved the roses into the bin.
"If you want them, dig them out."
His back was unyielding as he walked away.
Sophia stared at the blue roses in the trash, a glint of intrigue flashing in her eyes.
