Chapter 490
"Hey..." Dylan Lowell glanced around. "Are you two playing relay? Just leaving like that?"
The gathering he'd worked so hard to arrange dissolved in an instant.
Julian Roscente and Nathan Evans left one after another. Dylan stared at the empty private room. "Wait for me..."
The three men stood at the club entrance, each pulling out their phones to call designated drivers.
Dylan fished out a cigarette and placed it between his lips, but couldn't find his lighter.
"Julian, got a light?"
Julian gestured toward his car. "Backseat. Get it yourself."
Dylan opened the door and bent down to search.
"Found it..."
He lit his cigarette and tossed the lighter back to Julian.
Spotting a pale yellow shawl on the backseat, Dylan smirked suggestively. "Since when do you play in cars?"
Julian frowned. "Play what?"
"Don't play dumb. That's obviously a woman's shawl—pale yellow too. Spill it—which mistress left it behind?"
"Bullshit! That belongs to Evelyn's mother. I'm returning it tomorrow."
Dylan's eyes widened. "Evelyn's mom? Why would her stuff be in your car?"
Nathan subtly shifted half a step closer.
Julian started to explain, then noticed their gossipy expressions and deliberately drew out his words. "Well..."
Dylan stamped his foot impatiently. "Out with it!"
"None of your business."
"Of course it's my business! Last month when I broke my leg in the hospital, Evelyn came to visit me. Since she cares so much, shouldn't I know more about her?"
"Oh? Evelyn visited you?" Julian deliberately raised his voice, glancing sideways at Nathan.
Nathan pretended to adjust his cufflinks, but his ears were perked up.
Dylan boasted, "Of course! Evelyn treats me really well!"
Julian nodded. "True. Tonight she even treated me to a seafood feast."
"Why would she take you to dinner?" Dylan grew even more curious.
"Well..."
"There's a reason, right?" Dylan rolled his eyes. "Whatever, keep your secrets!"
Just then their drivers arrived. Julian waved. "Later."
Dylan gave a casual wave back.
But Nathan kept staring at Julian's taillights until they disappeared into the night.
Why?
Why could she smile so brightly for Ethan, visit Dylan in the hospital, share dinner with Julian...
Yet refuse to even glance his way?
"Nathan?"
Nathan snapped back to attention. "Hmm?"
"Where to next?"
Instead of answering, Nathan suddenly extended his hand. "Got a cigarette?"
Dylan quickly offered one.
But the lighter had already been returned to Julian.
Nathan rolled the unlit cigarette between his fingers, his eyes dark and unreadable.
"Dylan...was I really wrong?"
