Chapter 247
The sound of running water stopped abruptly.
Chloe Valentine tightened her bathrobe, trembling fingers twisting the doorknob.
Nathan Evans' towering figure loomed before her the moment the door opened, their faces nearly colliding.
"Who gave you permission to enter?"
A tempest raged in the man's eyes.
"Didn't I declare this room off-limits?" His fingers clamped around her wrist like steel. "Who do you think you are?"
Pain shot through Chloe's arm as the hangover soup sloshed from its tray. "I...I just..."
"Spare me the act." Nathan's laugh was glacial. "A few nights in my bed doesn't make you the lady of the house. Gold-diggers like you are a dime a dozen."
His breath chilled her ear as he hissed, "I wouldn't touch you now even if you stripped naked."
Tears streaked Chloe's cheeks as her body shook. "Stop..."
"Get out!"
The porcelain bowl shattered against marble tiles.
Chloe stumbled back to her room, silent sobs wracking her body all night. The pillowcase grew damp beneath her face, his cruel words echoing endlessly.
How could he treat her like this when she carried his child?
Unless...he truly intended to reconcile with Evelyn Langley?
The thought jolted her upright, her foot kicking over the nightstand in a violent arc.
At dawn, Mrs. Watson surveyed the master bedroom's wreckage when a thunderous crash sounded next door.
"Lord have mercy..." She stared at her grease-stained hands in despair.
The high salary wasn't worth this.
Approaching the guest suite, she heard a feeble cry: "Mrs. Watson..."
Chloe crouched by the doorway, her face ghostly pale. "The pain...I can't..."
"Oh dear!" The housekeeper fumbled for her phone. "The chauffeur's off today—"
"Call an ambulance!" Chloe doubled over, sweat beading her forehead.
Another maid rushed in and dialed Mrs. Evans without hesitation.
Thirty minutes later, sirens pierced the villa district's tranquility.
As the ambulance disappeared, every staff member exhaled in unison.
