Chapter 251
Nathan Evans's temple throbbed violently. He flipped his phone face down on the conference table and muted it.
"Continue."
His icy voice instantly silenced the room.
Everyone held their breath, afraid to make a sound.
After the meeting, Nathan returned to his office and finally picked up his phone.
A series of spending alerts flashed across the screen, drawing a cold laugh from him.
Chloe Valentine was using his supplementary card. Every transaction triggered an instant notification to him.
The alerts kept pouring in.
Just as Nathan was about to set his phone aside, a WeChat notification chimed.
"Nathan, do you like these clothes? I bought you a tie and a suit too~"
He glanced at it and immediately blocked her.
Standing by the floor-to-ceiling window, Nathan watched the endless stream of traffic below. Evelyn Langley's face surfaced in his mind again.
Lately, she kept intruding into his thoughts uninvited.
Even in his dreams.
He had once given Evelyn a black card too.
But she rarely used it except for essential expenses.
He knew she took freelance coding jobs that probably didn't pay much.
Yet she never bought luxury items.
All those designer bags and jewelry in her closet? He'd forced them on her.
When they broke up, she left everything behind.
Like discarding worthless trash.
Chloe's presence was a constant thorn, reminding him of what he'd lost.
......
At the mall.
Chloe trembled with rage when she saw the red exclamation mark signaling she'd been blocked.
A sharp pain shot through her abdomen, forcing her to take deep breaths.
"I want coconut water. Go buy it now," she ordered the two nannies, pointing imperiously.
"I'll go. She can stay with the bags," one nanny suggested.
Chloe sneered. "Are you deaf? I said both of you go!"
"But these purchases—"
"Carry them!"
The nannies exchanged a look, resentment simmering beneath their obedient expressions.
This was pure spite.
But Chloe didn't care.
If she had to suffer Nathan and Margaret Evans's indifference, someone else would bear her fury.
That night, Nathan still didn't return.
Surrounded by shopping bags, Chloe alternated between laughter and tears before starting to smash things.
Mrs. Watson rolled over in bed, pulling the covers over her head.
Let her break whatever she wants. They'd clean it up tomorrow.
The other two nannies had anticipated this. They'd requested leave as soon as they returned.
One claimed back pain required a doctor's visit. The other said her grandson needed care.
So when Chloe stormed out disheveled, the villa stood empty.
"Mrs. Heilbronn!"
"Mrs. Watson!"
"Where the hell is everyone?"
"I want bird's nest soup!"
"My stomach hurts!"
