Chapter 422
The screech of brakes pierced the sky.
Linda Lombardi and Tyler Lombardi collapsed in a pool of blood, their foreheads gashed horrifically.
When the truck came barreling toward them, Tyler had been throwing a tantrum on the ground. By the time he realized the danger, it was too late to dodge.
His legs turned to jelly. His entire body trembled. He couldn't even muster the strength to stand.
"Mom—"
His anguished scream echoed down the street.
At the last possible second, the truck swerved, barely grazing Tyler's body as it roared past.
Tyler sat frozen in shock, his pants soaked with urine.
The truck reversed direction and charged straight at Linda.
Linda shrieked and scrambled away like a frightened mouse, but the truck pursued her like a cat toying with its prey.
She stumbled blindly, her hair wild, looking like a madwoman.
Finally, she crashed headfirst into a tree trunk. Blood streamed down her face.
Only then did the truck speed away.
"Mom..." Tyler crawled toward her on hands and knees, his palms still damp with urine.
Linda's eyes remained shut, blood gushing from her forehead.
"Wake up!"
After what felt like an eternity, Linda's eyelids finally fluttered open.
"We..." She suddenly remembered something and began trembling violently. "We have to go. Now!"
"Why?"
"Do you want to die?!"
Tyler finally snapped out of his daze and helped his mother flee in panic.
After getting patched up at the hospital, Tyler's voice shook. "Mom, I'm scared..."
"Nathan Evans is trying to kill us!" Linda hissed through gritted teeth.
"Should we call the police?"
"It's useless. There were no cameras." Linda let out a cold laugh. "And our extortion scheme would be exposed."
"But we haven't gotten the money yet..."
"He was never going to pay!" A sinister glint flashed in Linda's eyes. "Still... we didn't walk away empty-handed."
