Chapter 52

Nathan Evans shoved Evelyn Langley onto the couch, his fingers roughly grabbing her collar.

Evelyn clutched the hem of her shirt, her knuckles turning white. "Stop..."

Her voice was hoarse, like sandpaper scraping against wood, trembling with broken desperation—a cornered animal.

Nathan's eyes darkened as he yanked up her skirt.

Evelyn struggled wildly. "Have you lost your mind, Nathan? There are so many women waiting for you. Why do this to me?"

"I can call Chloe Valentine for you—"

"Shut up!"

Nathan stared at her reddened eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing. "Stop pretending. Every inch of you has already been mine."

"You're disgusting!"

He gripped her chin. "Who else would want you? Used goods."

Tears blurred her vision. Evelyn stared at his familiar-yet-strange face, her heart splitting in two.

"What are you looking at?" Nathan sneered, leaning in to kiss her.

The sound of fabric tearing was deafening.

She trembled with sobs while he laughed cruelly.

The difference in their strength was staggering.

It was like being bitten by a rabid dog...

Just as she gave up resisting, the weight on her vanished.

A dark figure lunged forward, throwing Nathan aside. He staggered and crashed into the coffee table.

Adrian Klein had heard the commotion downstairs and rushed up in seconds.

When he pushed the door open, he saw Evelyn disheveled on the couch, her face streaked with tears.

His mind went blank.

"Don't be afraid." He swiftly draped his suit jacket over her, his voice deep and steady.

Evelyn's gaze was unfocused, her entire body shaking.

"Evelyn!" Adrian cupped her face. "Look at me. You're safe now."

"Evelyn!"

Only on the third call did she snap back to reality. "P-Professor Klein..."

He patted her back gently. "It's over."

The dam broke. She nodded, gripping his sleeve tightly.

Nathan's voice dripped with malice. "Well, well. The backup plan comes to the rescue?"

Before he could finish, Adrian's fist smashed into his face.
