Chapter 288

Her fingers dug into the second-floor railing, nails nearly piercing the metal. "Go ahead and drag me if you dare!"

Nathan Evans stepped out of the bedroom, his gaze icy. "Ten minutes are up. Since you refuse to behave, don't blame me for being ruthless. Mrs. Watson, call security."

"Yes, sir."

Chloe Valentine suddenly paled, clutching her abdomen as she curled inward. "It hurts... my stomach..."

The man remained unmoved.

Mrs. Watson stood frozen, unsure what to do.

Chloe slid to the floor, her silk nightgown soaked with sweat. Trembling, she grabbed Nathan's pant leg. "Save the baby... please..."

"Sir, Miss Valentine seems genuinely unwell..." Mrs. Watson whispered hesitantly.

Nathan turned away without a word. "You handle it."

Mrs. Watson looked ready to cry.

Being a housekeeper these days was pure torment!

......

The ambulance's blue lights pierced the predawn darkness as it entered the gated villa community.

By coincidence, Chloe was admitted to the same hospital where Margaret Evans was recuperating.

The morning call jolted Margaret awake. Mrs. Watson's trembling voice recounted the previous night's drama.

"Outrageous!" Margaret rushed to the maternity ward.

Before she even entered, hysterical screams echoed down the hallway—

"Doctor! My baby can't be in danger!"

"Please save him! I'll do anything!"

The doctor attempted to calm her. "Ma'am, you must relax. This level of agitation will harm the fetus—"

Chloe dug her nails into the doctor's wrist. "Tell me the truth! Is my baby still alive? Did you even try? My husband is the CEO of Evans Group—money is no object!"

Margaret strode in and delivered a stinging slap.

"Enough!"

Clutching her cheek, Chloe shrieked, "You old witch! This is all your fault!"

"Keep this up and you'll lose the baby for real!" Margaret's temple throbbed. "Can't you hear the doctor telling you to calm down?"

"If you hadn't forced me to learn etiquette, I wouldn't have fought with Nathan!" Chloe pounded the hospital bed in hysterics. "If anything happens to my child, it's on your hands!"

Margaret trembled with rage.

The fool didn't realize—this baby was the only thing securing her place in the Evans family now.
