Chapter 237

"Evelyn, this teacher you invited is excellent—far better than those stuffy old scholars from before."

In the tea-scented parlor, several society matrons whispered among themselves. This was Eleanor Roland's fifth tea appreciation gathering. Previous events had featured elderly tea masters well past their prime.

"Absolutely. Ms. Langley's presentation is lively and engaging. Her voice is quite pleasant too."

"And she's so elegant—every movement exudes grace."

Chloe Valentine's grip tightened around her teacup. Her nails dug into her palms as she glared at Evelyn Langley, who held the room captive with her effortless charm.

Why?

How could this sudden interloper command such admiration?

"Wait." Chloe abruptly stood, cutting Evelyn off mid-demonstration.

Every eye turned toward her. Margaret Evans reached to pull her back down, but it was too late.

"Is there a question, miss?" Evelyn remained unruffled.

"Are you actually a certified tea master?" Chloe lifted her chin. "You seem awfully young to be lecturing us. Did you just cram some basics last night?"

Murmurs rippled through the gathering.

Eleanor quickly interjected, "Master Qiu fell ill suddenly. I personally vouch for Ms. Langley's expertise."

"Then where's your certification?" Chloe pressed. "As I understand, professional tea masters require nationally accredited qualifications."

She'd researched this meticulously. The certification had five tiers, each notoriously difficult—her roommate had failed twice before passing the basic level.

Eleanor's expression faltered. She hadn't actually verified Evelyn's credentials.

All attention shifted back to the podium.

A smirk curled Chloe's lips. Let's see how this pretender wriggles out of this one.
