Chapter 185

Evelyn's eyes turned icy.

"The interview footage is public. File a formal appeal if you question the scores."

Her fingers tapped the desk lightly.

"Spreading rumors costs nothing—like whoever took those photos of me with Professor Adrian."

Her gaze sharpened like a blade, piercing Isabella's pupils.

Isabella's lashes fluttered, visibly shrinking at the word "photos."

A cold smirk curled Evelyn's lips.

Just as suspected.

"Every accusation you throw at me reeks of sour grapes."

Isabella's face flushed crimson before she jutted her chin out.

"Chloe's carrying my brother's baby. Bet you didn't know."

"Knew six hours before you did."

Evelyn checked her wristwatch.

Isabella's nails dug into her palms.

"Professor Eleanor isn't available. Leave."

The words ignited Isabella like a spark in oil. She slammed the table.

"Who do you think you are? I'm going in!"

"If her word isn't enough, how about mine?"

Professor Eleanor's voice cut through the hallway, her glasses glinting coldly.

Isabella froze.

"I remember you."

Eleanor approached with measured steps.

"You submitted materials here before."

As Isabella opened her mouth—

"Was my last rejection not clear enough?"

A folder snapped shut with finality.

"My students earn their place through merit."

She pointed to the door.

"Now. Immediately."

......

A ginkgo leaf spiraled to the pavement by Isabella's feet.

She clenched her purse strap.

Why did Evelyn get special treatment?

A pebble skittered away under her kick.

"Miss Evans?"

A crisp elderly voice spoke.

Silver hair framed by emerald cheongsam.

"Fourth in the interviews?"

Beatrice smoothed her collar.

"My research team has one opening left."

Fine wrinkles crinkled at her smiling eyes.

"Care to join?"
