Chapter 113
Dawn's first light crept across the sky as Ethan Winston stepped out of the restaurant.
Nathan Evans collided with him at the entrance.
Nathan's brow furrowed.
His gaze swept through every corner of the dining area, but the familiar figure was nowhere in sight.
"Darling, who are you looking for?" Chloe Valentine clung to his arm, a sly glint flashing in her eyes.
Nathan withdrew his attention. "Your leg injury hasn't healed. You shouldn't be walking around."
"Lying in bed too long makes me feel moldy." Chloe blinked playfully. "I wanted to have breakfast with you."
"What would you like?"
"A sandwich with warm milk, thank you darling~"
By noon, Nathan had visited every restaurant on the island.
As evening fell, he paced restlessly along the beach.
Night descended. Only Sophia Laurent dined alone in the Chinese restaurant.
Ethan and Evelyn Langley had both vanished.
The realization made Nathan's skin prickle. He stood abruptly, grabbing a shawl from the chairback.
"Evelyn left this." He handed the shawl to Sophia.
Sophia, mid-laugh with her male companion, blurted out, "She returned this after—"
Her words cut off abruptly.
"Nathan Evans!" Sophia's eyes widened. "You tricked me?"
The man's gaze sharpened like a blade. "She went back to the country?"
"None of your business." Sophia turned her face away.
Nathan had his answer. He spun on his heel, pulling out his phone to call his assistant. "Book the earliest flight back."
"Will Miss Valentine be joining you?" Lin Ming asked cautiously.
"Sweetheart~" Chloe limped after him. "I heard there's a yacht gala the day after tomorrow. Shall we go?"
Nathan paused.
Lin Ming still waited on the line.
"...Cancel the booking." Nathan ended the call.
Chloe wore an apologetic expression. "Did I interrupt your work?"
"It's nothing." He pocketed his phone, but his eyes drifted toward the horizon.
