Chapter 498

The coincidence was too striking to ignore.

After thorough investigations, it was revealed that Zachary Whitmore had been the one to post the photo clearing Nathan's name.

Yet all scrutiny proved pointless. Blackwood Enterprises had meticulously followed every protocol in acquiring the small business.

Many in elite circles considered Nathan's methods excessively harsh.

Whispers circulated about his ruthless approach. Zachary merely shared a photo, yet Nathan had pushed the Whitmore family to the edge of ruin in retaliation. No one dared challenge his wrath.

It served as a stark warning. As the scandal faded, Xavier Delmont emerged into the spotlight.

Though initial impressions of Xavier weren't favorable, his striking resemblance to Nathan Blackwood earned him unexpected supporters.

Dominic Young capitalized on Xavier's sudden fame, scheduling numerous appearances and even arranging live streams during his downtime at Horizon Media.

The project's critical meeting required all four stakeholders' presence.

When Evelyn arrived, Dominic Kingsley, Nathan Blackwood, and Preston Sinclair were already seated in the conference room.

Their gazes remained impassive as she entered, as if unaware of her trending status. Whether intentional or not, Nathan and Preston sat directly opposite each other, each with an empty chair beside them.

Evelyn scanned the room briefly before taking the seat next to Preston without hesitation. Dominic shot Nathan a knowing look. Preston slid the meeting documents toward her with a subtle smile.

"Ms. Sinclair," he began smoothly, "we should congratulate Mr. Blackwood on his full recovery."

Nathan, who had just mustered the courage to speak, stiffened. His eyes darkened as they locked onto Preston with icy disdain.

Is he provoking me on purpose?

Dominic cleared his throat. "Quite right."

Evelyn's lips curved, but her eyes remained cold and mocking. "Congratulations, Mr. Blackwood."

Liar.

Nathan's jaw tightened imperceptibly as he gave a curt nod. "Thank you."

Preston continued, "Actually, I've received interest from several overseas AI investors. While their capital would expand the project significantly, their terms vary drastically."

Dominic frowned. "A massive influx could elevate us—or destroy us if mismanaged. Given core technology protection concerns, I advise caution."

Nathan smirked. "They're vultures circling our success. Even if we consider external funding, we're not desperate yet."

Preston agreed. Evelyn arched a brow but stayed silent.

Throughout the meeting, Evelyn and Preston exchanged knowing glances, their synergy palpable. Nathan sat excluded, bitterness gnawing at him.

As the meeting adjourned, Preston leaned toward Evelyn, voice low. "Lunch, Ms. Sinclair? Any preferences?"

Before she could respond, Dominic interjected, "Count me in."

Nathan's chair scraped back. "Me too."

Evelyn stood, gathering her files. "You three enjoy yourselves. I have prior engagements."

The air thickened. She left without another word.

Dominic exhaled, eyeing Preston. "You could've invited us all. Singling her out makes it seem like a date."

Preston's smile didn't waver as he met Nathan's glare. "Precisely what I intended."
