Chapter 137
Lucas realized he had severely misjudged his sister's capabilities.
Hearing Evelyn's sharp retort to the reporter, he regretted being too lenient with the instructions he'd given the journalist earlier.
"Impressive! She's finally showing her true strength!" Lucas thought with pride.
Evelyn ended the call with icy composure and turned to Lucas. "I have a meeting at the office. What are your plans?"
Seeing how unaffected she was by the media storm, Lucas grinned mischievously. "I was thinking of taking Leo home. Dad's been driving me crazy lately - I need something cute to distract him!"
The image of their father doting on the AI tiger instead of nagging him brought a satisfied smirk to Lucas's face.
After brief consideration, Evelyn nodded. With her upcoming commitments at Kingsley Tech, she wouldn't have time for Leo anyway. Having her family care for him was the perfect solution.
Lucas practically bounced with excitement, his cheerful demeanor a complete contrast to the intimidating presence he'd shown the reporter moments ago.
"Perfect! You go handle your meeting then—"
To Evelyn's astonishment, Lucas effortlessly accessed her penthouse using biometrics she didn't remember granting him, immediately scooping up the mechanical tiger in a bear hug.
"I definitely didn't authorize his fingerprints," Evelyn muttered, shaking her head.
Kingsley Tech Headquarters
Harrison rushed into Nathan's office with urgent news. The internet was ablaze with a viral video showing Evelyn's fiery confrontation with reporters. Her stunning beauty, razor-sharp wit, and unshakable confidence had captivated the online world.
[QUEEN BEHAVIOR! Evelyn doesn't owe anyone explanations!]
[Vanessa's the one who should be ashamed, not our CEO!]
[That car did the world a favor hitting that manipulative witch!]
[Lucas is absolute husband material! Shame he only got one line...]
Nathan's expression darkened as he scanned the comments. His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "Who authorized those reporters to ambush her?"
Harrison blinked in confusion. "That's your main concern? Sir, you're currently public enemy number one! If you don't issue a statement soon—"
The temperature in the room seemed to drop several degrees. Harrison swallowed hard before continuing. "Perhaps they were... overzealous? The public can't get enough of you and Evelyn's story."
Nathan's piercing gaze made Harrison instantly regret his choice of words. "Perhaps?"
The video showed Evelyn's initial vulnerability before Lucas arrived, and how her confidence grew with her brother's support. Harrison could practically feel Nathan's rage radiating through the room.
"Ms. Sinclair isn't being disturbed anymore," Harrison quickly assured him. "Everything's under control now."
Nathan's responding glare could have frozen lava.
Within minutes, Harrison's shirt was soaked with sweat. As Nathan's most trusted assistant, he still couldn't comprehend why his boss had become so invested in Evelyn's affairs post-divorce.
During their three-year marriage, Nathan had shown little interest. Why this sudden obsession after their separation?
At Kingsley Tech, the collaborative project was progressing smoothly. The initial phase required daily meetings between all parties to adjust strategies based on real-time developments.
Still shaken from her earlier car accident, Evelyn opted to take the company car rather than drive herself.
As she arrived at Kingsley Tech, a familiar Range Rover caught her eye across the street.
Its owner stood tall and imposing, his chiseled features set in their usual cold expression. The air around him seemed to crackle with restrained energy.
Evelyn pretended not to notice him as she stepped out of her car. Her emerald green halter dress accentuated her graceful figure while projecting an air of quiet authority.
Nathan moved to intercept her, desperate to explain that he hadn't orchestrated the media ambush. He couldn't bear the thought of her misunderstanding his intentions.
But Evelyn walked past without sparing him a glance, her head held high as she entered the building alone.
