Chapter 142

Vanessa Holloway's face drained of color when she heard Sebastian Hart's accusation.

Her fingers curled into tight fists as she met Evelyn Sinclair's mocking gaze. Without uttering a word, Vanessa turned and fled the scene.

Evelyn paused for a dramatic beat before leisurely following her prey.

Nathan Blackwood frowned and moved to intervene, but Sebastian blocked his path, demanding clarification about Nathan's earlier statement.

Vanessa had just reached her cherry-red BMW when she heard approaching footsteps. She whirled around to see Evelyn standing there with an infuriatingly calm expression.

"What do you want?" Vanessa spat. "Come to gloat? Even if Nathan hurt you for my sake, it proves he doesn't care about you at all. Stop embarrassing yourself."

She still believed herself superior to Evelyn in every way.

Slamming the car door, Vanessa started the engine with a roar and pulled away from the curb.

Evelyn's eyes turned glacial as she slid into her own vehicle. The tires screeched as she accelerated after Vanessa's disappearing car.

The wide boulevard stretched empty before them.

A dangerous glint appeared in Evelyn's eyes as she pulled alongside Vanessa's car. With precise timing, she jerked the steering wheel sharply to the right.

CRASH!

The sickening sound of metal grinding against metal filled the air.

Vanessa's BMW spun violently, the left front fender crumpling like paper. The car came to a shuddering halt as Vanessa stared through the cracked windshield in shock.

Evelyn wasn't finished.

With practiced ease, she executed a perfect 180-degree turn, tires smoking as she drifted to face Vanessa's damaged vehicle head-on.

Through the haze of dust, Evelyn saw Vanessa fumbling for her phone with shaking hands.

Evelyn smirked. "Whoever you're calling won't get here in time."

She floored the accelerator again, ramming directly into Vanessa's car with bone-jarring force.

The collision sent Vanessa's BMW skidding sideways, the frame twisting grotesquely as the acrid smell of gasoline filled the air.

Finally satisfied, Evelyn reversed, parked neatly, and stepped out to lean casually against her hood. She crossed her arms, studying her handiwork with cold detachment.

Vanessa crawled from the wreckage, blood streaking her designer clothes, her entire body trembling with shock and pain.

"How does it feel?" Evelyn asked, her voice dripping with icy amusement.

Vanessa's earlier arrogance had completely evaporated. "Evelyn... if you want Nathan, just take him..." she stammered.

Evelyn pushed off from her car and sauntered forward, her designer heels clicking ominously against the pavement. She looked down at the cowering woman with undisguised contempt.

"Him? Please. A man like that isn't even worth my time anymore." Her laugh was sharp as broken glass. "No, Vanessa. I came for you."

Evelyn crouched down until they were eye to eye. "Don't even think about fleeing the country. I have an excellent memory for grudges, and we still have unfinished business." Her voice dropped to a deadly whisper. "Like when you tried to kill me by sabotaging my brakes."

Vanessa's face turned ashen. She clawed at the pavement in panic, her manicured nails snapping and bleeding. "I don't know what you're talking about! You're insane!"

Evelyn's stunning galaxy-like eyes showed no emotion as she studied Vanessa's pathetic state. That near-death experience had haunted her nightmares for months. She'd nearly lost everything - her family, her future.

Evelyn Sinclair didn't believe in forgiveness. Only consequences.

"Evelyn." A familiar cold voice cut through the tension. "What the hell are you doing?"
