Chapter 404

Nathan's fingers flew across his phone screen as he dialed Harrison's cousin without hesitation.

Less than twenty minutes later.

A rotund man weighing well over 100 kg stood before Nathan, his round face splitting into a grin so wide his eyes nearly disappeared.

Nathan's expression darkened instantly. His sharp gaze flicked between Harrison and the beaming stranger.

Cousin?

Before Harrison could explain, the man burst into enthusiastic speech, droplets of spit flying as he gestured wildly. "Mr. Blackwood, no need for formalities! Call me Teddy—Theodore Winslow, at your service!"

He clapped his hands together. "Matchmaking is my passion! One month to rekindle the spark, three months to deepen the connection, and I guarantee you'll be remarried within a year!"

Teddy spoke with such conviction that Nathan found himself momentarily stunned.

The sheer audacity of this man should have made Nathan throw him out immediately.

Yet...

Against all logic, Nathan hesitated.

Harrison shot his cousin a frantic look, silently begging him to tone it down. If Teddy oversold and failed, they'd both be unemployed.

A heavy silence settled over the study.

Nathan tapped his fingers against the mahogany desk. "You were a white-collar worker before this. Why the career change?"

Teddy's cheerful demeanor faltered. His shoulders slumped dramatically, his entire body jiggling as he stomped his foot like a petulant child.

"Because..." He pouted. "Every time I went to the company cafeteria, there was never enough food left for anyone else!"

Nathan blinked.

"My boss said I was great at my job, but my food expenses canceled out my profits!" Teddy huffed. "They just wanted an excuse to fire me!"

Nathan pinched the bridge of his nose.

He exhaled sharply. "What's your success rate?"

Teddy perked up instantly. "You and Ms. Sinclair are my first clients!" He beamed. "But I’ll give it my all!"

Nathan's jaw tightened. His icy glare shifted to Harrison.

"I'm a test subject?"

Harrison wished the floor would swallow him whole.

Teddy, oblivious, clapped his hands. "So, when do I start?"

Nathan's voice was glacial. "One-day probation."

He should have thrown Teddy out right then.

But the man cheered as if he'd won the lottery. "Perfect! I'll start cooking dinner!"

Harrison barely escaped the room before Nathan's murderous stare could incinerate him.

Alone in his study, Nathan dragged a hand down his face. "I've lost my mind."

The scent of roasted herbs and spices soon filled the mansion.

Teddy knocked on the study door, grinning like a fool. "Mr. Blackwood, call Ms. Sinclair! Invite her for dinner!"

Nathan's phone lay untouched on the desk.

His fingers twitched.

How could he even begin to explain this absurd situation to Evelyn?

Teddy winked. "Don’t worry—I’ll handle it!"

Before Nathan could protest, Teddy whipped out his phone.

Beep. Beep.

The call connected.
