Chapter 124
Sterling Corporation.
Inside the boardroom.
All eyes were fixed on the powerful figures seated at the head of the long mahogany table. William Sterling reclined comfortably in his chair, eyes closed as he dozed off, having confidently left Alexander to oversee the proceedings.
Alexander cleared his throat and began his opening remarks before introducing Evelyn.
Evelyn had deliberately let her dark waves fall across her forehead to conceal the wound from last night’s incident. She didn’t want it drawing unnecessary attention.
"I believe everyone here is already aware that Evelyn is my father’s daughter—my sister," Alexander announced, his voice firm. "She is also the largest shareholder of Sterling Corporation. Effective immediately, I hereby appoint Evelyn Sinclair as the new Chief Executive Officer. I trust no one has any objections?"
The room remained silent.
Evelyn now commanded an empire far more expansive than before. Regardless of the whispers, she was now the formidable CEO of Sterling Corporation.
As she stepped out of the boardroom, Bennett approached her, phone in hand. "President Evelyn, Ferguson Corporation has just released their public apology."
Evelyn arched a brow. "Already?"
She had expected Old Master Blackwood’s pride to drag this out for at least another week, if not longer. A quick glance at the statement had her lips curling into a cold smirk. The wording was calculated—smoothly downplaying the scandal while clinically dissecting their failed marriage.
She recognized Nathan’s handiwork instantly.
"Do we need to issue a response?" Bennett asked.
Evelyn turned on her heel, flashing him a bright smile. "My brother must have a mountain of work lined up for me. If possible, delay whatever he’s arranged. I want to personally oversee the selection process for the Kingsley Tech research program. I won’t let Ferguson Corporation snatch it from under my nose."
She would never compromise when it came to her company’s interests.
Bennett nodded. "Understood, ma’am."
"By the way," he added, "would you like to review the list of gifts for the staff? They’re ready for distribution."
Evelyn waved a dismissive hand. "Handle it as you see fit."
Her only role in this was signing the checks.
Bennett hesitated. "How’s your injury?"
He was the only one who knew about it. Otherwise, Evelyn wouldn’t have pushed through the meeting.
Her fingers brushed lightly over the concealed wound. "It’s fine. The doctor said it’s just a scratch. I’m not made of glass."
"The investigation report is already on your desk."
"Just give me the name." She was curious—who had wanted her dead?
Bennett’s expression darkened. "Vanessa Holloway."
Evelyn’s lips curved into a chilling smile, but she said nothing.
