Chapter 380

Oliver Sinclair pouted. His sparkling sapphire eyes shimmered with hopeful anticipation. The sight made Evelyn Sinclair's heart instantly soften.

"Oliver, darling, I still have work to finish," Evelyn said gently, brushing a curl from his forehead.

Preston Sinclair checked his watch, his voice crisp and authoritative. "You should go upstairs and finish your assignments."

Oliver's face fell instantly.

He shot his father a miserable look. Homework followed him everywhere like an unshakable shadow!

Evelyn's thoughts drifted to the baby photo she'd seen earlier. How had that tiny infant grown into this bright-eyed boy?

An unexpected warmth filled her chest. She ruffled his soft curls affectionately. "I'll play with you tomorrow, okay?"

Oliver blinked those enormous blue eyes, his lower lip trembling.

Just when Evelyn thought he'd accept this compromise, the little boy suddenly clutched her skirt in a death grip.

"No! No homework!" His voice took on a mischievous edge. "I want to sleep with Muse and go home with you! Daddy can stay here alone!"

Preston's eyes narrowed dangerously. He knew his son's manipulative tactics all too well. With a sharp gesture, a towering bodyguard appeared.

The man scooped up the squirming child effortlessly, ignoring Oliver's dramatic protests.

"Noooooo! I won't go! Muse is mine forever!" Oliver wailed as he was carried away, kicking his little legs furiously.

Evelyn paused, meeting Preston's gaze. His dark eyes brimmed with unspoken emotions - joy, longing, regret all swirling together.

After a moment's hesitation, Evelyn slid into the waiting car. The drive stretched interminably, the silence between her and Nathan Blackwood growing heavier with each passing mile.

Finally, Nathan broke the tension. "You only remembered me because of that incident, didn't you?"

Evelyn pressed her lips together before answering. "Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me?" His voice held the same wounded confusion as when he'd learned about the underground fight club.

A bitter smile touched Evelyn's lips. "You saved me once. I saved you once. We're even now."

"Even?" Nathan's hands trembled slightly. The raw pain in his gaze made Evelyn instinctively tense.

Her voice turned frosty. "There are no second chances in life."

If she could turn back time, she'd never have walked down that aisle. Their marriage had been the most painful lesson of her life.
