Chapter 437

The moment Preston Sinclair spoke those words, every eye in the room snapped toward him with shock.

Even Evelyn Sinclair hadn't anticipated Preston's sudden declaration - she'd only invited young Oliver Sinclair last night.

Nathan Blackwood's expression darkened instantly as he fixed Preston with an intense, unreadable stare.

Surely Preston Sinclair isn't dense enough to miss my warning glare? What game is he playing? Nathan thought bitterly.

William Sterling froze momentarily before quickly recovering his usual diplomatic smile.

"Wonderful! The more company the merrier!" William beamed. "It's only natural Mr. Sinclair would be concerned about Oliver's safety. Shall we depart then, Mr. Blackwood?"

Nathan forced a tight smile. "Certainly."

Standing off to the side, Theodore "Teddy" Winslow gaped in silent dismay. He'd orchestrated this trip specifically to create opportunities for Evelyn and Nathan.

With William along, it could pass as a family outing. But with Preston and Oliver tagging along?

Would this become some bizarre corporate retreat? Nathan's gaze shifted to Evelyn.

His icy expression melted into something warmer as his lips curved into a gentle smile. "Let's go relax for a few days."

Evelyn met his gaze and returned the smile.

"Mr. Blackwood, how thoughtful of you." Despite their tense parting last night and their complicated history, they could both pretend nothing had happened when morning came.

Teddy pushed Nathan's wheelchair with a deep frown. This wasn't part of the plan!

The helicopter waited on the lawn nearby.

Marcus assisted William aboard while Preston strode confidently up the steps, leaving young Oliver struggling behind him. The boy turned back to check if his beloved "Muse" Evelyn was following.

Evelyn lingered behind, finishing a message to Bennett. When she looked up, she saw Teddy struggling to support Nathan alone.

Frowning, she stepped forward to support Nathan's other arm.

Nathan stiffened momentarily before looking at her with undisguised delight.

Evelyn remained silent as they boarded.

"Thank you," Nathan murmured.

Evelyn arched an eyebrow. "Mr. Blackwood, you must have remarkable stamina to travel in your condition."

What's his real motive? Why push himself to travel when injured? Before Nathan could respond, Teddy hastily interjected.

"Mr. Blackwood hasn't slept properly for days preparing for Chairman Sterling's birthday. He wanted everything perfect - the antiques, paintings, sculptures... But knowing Chairman Sterling has seen every luxury, Mr. Blackwood realized experiences matter more."

Teddy continued earnestly, "When he learned Chairman Sterling always dreamed of traveling but never could, Mr. Blackwood postponed critical meetings just to make this happen. Isn't that touching?"

Evelyn's lips twitched as she gave Teddy an amused look. "You seem intimately familiar with Mr. Blackwood's sleeping habits."

Teddy froze. "Huh?!"

Nathan's expression darkened as he shot Teddy a withering glare. My reputation is ruined!

Evelyn turned away to find her father, leaving Teddy standing in Nathan's icy shadow.

During the flight, sudden turbulence rocked the helicopter violently. Evelyn, who hadn't fastened her seatbelt, nearly tumbled from her seat.

Preston, seated beside her, instantly clamped a firm hand around hers, steadying her until she regained balance.

Evelyn exhaled in relief. "Thank you, Mr. Sinclair."

Preston released her with a slight nod. "You're welcome."

Seconds later, he suddenly reached across her body, his hand brushing against her left waist. The unexpected contact made Evelyn stiffen.

She immediately recoiled, eyeing him warily.

Preston's lips thinned. "Seatbelt," he said tersely, buckling the neglected restraint with efficient movements.
