Chapter 393

Evelyn Sinclair intended to return to Highland Estates to gather her belongings while informing her father and brothers about this decision.

Nathan Blackwood immediately instructed Harrison to initiate the discharge process, eager to recuperate in the comfort of his own home.

Despite his injuries, he displayed more energy than usual.

Harrison efficiently completed the discharge formalities and arranged for a thorough cleaning of Highland Estates.

Nathan personally inspected every corner of the mansion in his wheelchair, scrutinizing the cleanliness with meticulous attention.

Beatrice, the housekeeper who had served since before the divorce, remained employed because Nathan believed Evelyn was accustomed to her presence.

Beatrice trembled under Nathan's icy, critical gaze when he questioned her.

"Are Lady Sinclair's possessions still here?"

"Y-Yes, sir," Beatrice stammered. "You explicitly ordered that none of the lady's belongings should be discarded."

Nathan nodded approvingly before turning to Harrison.

"Contact the major fashion houses to deliver new collections. Remove all out-of-season clothing, shoes, and handbags from the dressing room. I don't want her distressed upon seeing them."

Harrison nearly rolled his eyes. In his opinion, it was Nathan who couldn't bear the sight of those reminders.

But he merely nodded obediently. "Understood, sir."

At Sterling Manor...

When Evelyn mentioned her plan, Lucas Sterling nearly exploded with rage. "Absolutely not! I forbid it!"

In Lucas's view, Nathan clearly harbored ulterior motives.

William Sterling studied his daughter carefully. "Are you certain about this?" Evelyn gave a firm nod. Alexander remained silent, knowing his sister's stubborn nature once she made up her mind.

"Father! Alexander! How can you just agree like this? Have you no spine?" Lucas glared at them in disbelief.

Alexander shot him a cool glance. "Then perhaps you'd like to personally care for Nathan in Evelyn's stead?"

"In his dreams! If I go there, I'll throw him down the stairs and finish what the accident started!" Lucas fumed, steam practically rising from his head.

Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. "Don't overthink it. I'm not going as his caretaker. Besides, Marcus will accompany me."

The three men looked at her with newfound admiration, giving simultaneous thumbs-up.

Their concern was touching but unnecessary.

Evelyn shrugged nonchalantly.

Nathan hadn't specified anything about bodyguards.

She packed only a small suitcase, prepared to leave immediately if uncomfortable. She had no intention of playing nurse.

Marcus, however, arrived with an enormous trunk, his expression grim as he waited by the entrance.

Evelyn blinked in surprise but held her tongue.

Perhaps his luggage contained an arsenal?

Marcus offered no explanation. His instincts warned this wouldn't be a short visit, so he came prepared for an extended stay.

At Highland Estates...

Evelyn wore a simple pastel dress that accentuated her graceful figure. Marcus stood imposingly behind her, effortlessly carrying both suitcases while radiating an intimidating aura that kept bystanders at bay.

Evelyn expected to feel hatred returning here, but standing at the threshold, she felt only detachment. Her last visit seemed like another lifetime.

That chapter was closed forever.

Marcus knocked, and the door opened immediately.

Before Evelyn could enter, Beatrice rushed forward excitedly, grasping her hands.

"My lady! You've finally returned! I've missed you terribly!"

Disgust flashed in Evelyn's eyes as she swiftly withdrew her hands. In an instant, Marcus stepped between them.

His massive frame shielded Evelyn completely. "Step back," he growled. "She's not your lady anymore."
