Chapter 344
Nathan Blackwood couldn't tell if Evelyn Sinclair had heard him. She remained completely still, giving no reaction. The bungee cord kept bouncing them violently up and down.
Gradually, Evelyn's body adjusted to the motion. Her initial panic began to fade away.
When she finally opened her eyes to look at him, they burned with icy fury instead of fear. After they were pulled back up, Adrian Blackwood and the others rushed over in concern. "Evelyn, are you alright? How do you feel? Any dizziness?" Nathan was ignored off to the side.
Everyone knew Nathan had done this deliberately, so no one comforted him. Evelyn was clearly the victim here! Even Sophia Laurent just stood silently watching the pair.
She couldn't comprehend what had just happened. Evelyn shook her head weakly, her face deathly pale. She couldn't speak yet, only feeling waves of nausea rolling through her.
Her brows furrowed painfully. "Can we be done with this?" Adrian paused, glancing at Nathan's expressionless face - pale but showing no emotion.
For someone with special forces training like Nathan, this extreme sport was child's play, wasn't it? Adrian gently patted Evelyn's back.
"Wait, I just discussed with the director - we're changing the game." His eyes flickered toward Sophia's face. "Let's just vote on who should bungee jump next and get this over with! Forget the truth game!" Sophia's face instantly drained of color.
As she opened her mouth to protest, Ethan Caldwell nodded approvingly. "Great idea. Much better than anonymous voting."
"I vote for Sophia." Ethan was brutally direct, giving her no chance to refuse.
"Straight to the point!" Adrian grinned. "Great minds think alike! My vote's for Sophia too!" With only six people total, two votes were already against her.
Sophia looked desperately at Julian Moreau, who'd won the Most Promising Newcomer Award alongside her. Surely he'd side with her?
Without hesitation, Julian's gaze swept over Evelyn's face. "I also vote for Sophia." Sophia's heart plummeted. Three votes against her already.
She was doomed! No matter who Evelyn or Nathan chose, she was finished! Yet Adrian still turned to Evelyn for her answer.
"Evelyn, who do you choose?" Evelyn still looked unwell. She lowered her lashes briefly before raising them to reveal glacial eyes. "I vote for Nathan Blackwood." Her answer shocked everyone.
Clearly in this situation, Sophia was the obvious target. Among all the Nitra participants, only Evelyn dared vote against Nathan - her silent protest against his cruelty.
Nathan's brows twitched slightly, his eyes darkening momentarily. Then he raised an eyebrow at her, surprisingly showing no trace of guilt.
Adrian tried to diffuse the tension by casually asking Nathan, "Uncle Nathan, who's your pick?" If Nathan had any sense, he'd follow Evelyn's lead and vote for himself.
Maybe that would appease her somewhat. But he didn't. Under everyone's watchful gaze, Nathan lifted his chin and pointed at Sophia.
"Her." Not a single extra word. Sophia's face crumpled. After all her efforts to please him, Nathan was bullying her along with the others.
Ironically, Evelyn - the one Sophia had been targeting - was the only one who hadn't voted against her. Sophia felt tears welling up, standing there looking utterly wronged.
She immediately switched to her pitiful damsel act. "I...I accept this result, but I've had a terrible fear of heights since childhood..."
Surely these grown men wouldn't force a delicate girl like her to jump, right? Adrian laughed darkly.
His lips curled into a reckless smirk as he stepped closer, lowering his voice. "Fear of heights? Then why come on this show? Maybe I should ask your agent what's going on here."
"You signed the contract agreeing to all program requirements..." His smile turned predatory. "I guess you'll just have to pay those breach of contract penalties then."
