Chapter 304
Margaret Blackwood's words hung in the air, making Evelyn Sinclair's expression freeze for a split second.
Then, Evelyn burst into laughter. "What does it matter whether Nathan is willing or not? It's not like I would ever agree."
Where did Margaret get such confidence? Why should Evelyn care about her personal life just because of Nathan's one-sided feelings? How absurd!
Margaret's face twisted in irritation.
"In a few days, Patriarch Blackwood will personally propose a marriage alliance with your Sterling family. This union will only benefit both families."
"Where else would you find a family as prestigious as ours?"
Margaret already felt they were being generous by allowing Evelyn back into their circle. What right did she have to act so high and mighty?
Evelyn was a divorced woman. Even with her family's status, most noble families would hesitate.
So why was she being so picky?
Since Margaret had extended an olive branch, Evelyn should have grabbed it without hesitation.
Evelyn's smile vanished, her eyes turning icy.
Her voice was sharp and clear. "I suggest you save yourself the embarrassment of coming to my doorstep."
"Even if I marry a stranger off the street, I would never choose your family. Don’t disgust me."
Margaret's face flushed with rage.
"Do you really think you have a say in this? Nathan saved your life! If it weren’t for him, you’d be dead!"
Evelyn stared at her indifferently. "So what if he did?"
"If you dare, come and see whether I can decide for myself."
Evelyn made her stance crystal clear.
"And no one gets to dictate my personal life."
"I won’t give up any of my thirteen lovers. Would the Blackwood family really tolerate that for the sake of this alliance?"
Suddenly, Evelyn felt grateful to Isabella and Natalie for throwing this party.
She had said everything she needed to. If they still insisted on humiliating themselves, that was their problem.
Margaret scoffed. "Evelyn, I never wanted to accept you, but Nathan is obsessed! He sent Sophia away and swore he must be with you!"
"Fine. In the future, even if you beg on your knees, don’t expect to step into our home!"
She trembled with fury.
Even if Nathan married Evelyn, Margaret would never get along with her.
Evelyn smirked. "Perfect. Keep your son in check and tell him to stop bothering me."
With that, she turned and walked back to her thirteen lovers, leaving Margaret fuming.
Margaret took several deep breaths before she could calm down.
As she passed Evelyn’s private room, she discreetly snapped a photo.
Evelyn was surrounded by handsome young men, the scene looking far too intimate.
Satisfied, Margaret sent the picture to Nathan.
Now he would finally see Evelyn for who she really was—and whether she was worth his devotion.
Natalie frowned as she watched Margaret leave.
She squeezed Evelyn’s wrist and glanced outside. "That old hag was definitely filming us."
One of Julian Moreau’s co-stars immediately stood and closed the door.
Natalie gave him a grateful smile.
Evelyn took a sip of wine, unfazed. "I left it open on purpose so she could film."
Natalie looked confused, so Evelyn quickly explained what had happened.
Isabella was furious and wanted to confront Margaret, but Evelyn managed to stop her.
"They’re so full of themselves!"
Evelyn shrugged. "Exactly."
Just then, her phone lit up with an unknown number.
She answered without thinking. "Hello?"
A deep, magnetic voice filled with restrained anger came through.
"It’s me. Where are you?"
